Divisions and Rules:

Rookie- This is a ladder competition and we will be pulling tricks from the Official trick list of the National Yo-yo Contest (click here to check it out). The way that it works is that you start at the beginning and who ever can complete the most tricks is our winner.

Freestyle- All competitors can enter to do an “A” freestyle and/or an “Open” freestyle. An “A” freestyle is restricted to Single A style play. “Open” freestyles are not restricted to any style of play or to a single style of play; competitors can and are encouraged to do multiple styles of play in a routine.

There will be 5 judges, each judging a specific criteria:

-Proficiency (x2)- competency, tricks completed/missed, diversity of tricks, and overall command of yo-yo
-Technicality- Difficulty of tricks and routine as a whole
-Innovation- originality, creativity, and newness of tricks and routine
-Presentation- smoothness, style, flow and stage presence

What this means is that you will get a score for how proficient your routine is, another score for how technical your routine is, another score for how innovative your routine is, another score for your presentation and a second proficiency score. Then these scores will be tallied and an over-all score generated from that by normalizing the scores per judge and then totaling each judge. (If you have a question on the score processing, please contact Mark McBride at the beginning of the contest or at 2006 at popartmogul.com).

Stunt- This is a single trick division. You get up to 3 tries to pull of one trick. It starts when you throw and ends when the yoyo gets back to your hand. Props and assistants allowed. Judging will purely be subjective on the basis of how much the trick impresses the judges.

The Awards will be as follows:

Rookie division: age brackets- Under 10, 10-13, and Over 13

Top SW Region Player, A Freestyle- The top freestyle score in a Singel A routine performed by resident of the SouthWest region (Southern California, Southern Nevada and Arizona). This player will be seeded to Nationals in the Single A division.

Top SW Region Player, Open Freestyle- the top freestyle score in an Open routine performed by a resident of the SouthWest region.

Top Sponsored Freestyle- The top freestyle score (regardless of region or division) performed by a player who is currently on the official team of a yo-yo manufacturer, distributor or related company and has been for at least 6 months.

Top Independent Freestyle- The top freestyle score (regardless of region or division) performed by a player who is not on a company team.
